San Francisco [RESULTS]
San Francisco [RESULTS]
I arrived a little late but found many sketchcrawlers already in the park.
A kid was astounded to see all this art on the hoof.
10 years old with the face of a man. His name is Gabriel.
I found Gary on crutches but his sense of direction was intact.
He led us right into some sort of a celebration involving dancing lions with giant heads.
And an eardrum assault by a longrope of firecrackers accompanied by a crash and drum band.
This is Gerard playing cymbols and a lion dancing and a lion's head.
Chinatown has these magnificent streetlamps. Everybody had to draw at least one.
And it seems each block had a draping of paper lanterns.
After lunch I came out into bright sunlight and deep shadows;
the jumble and bustle of a chinatown street.
This guy was playing a two stringed instrument called an ERHU.
He quite happily played and posed while puffing on a cigarette.
After a while he came over to spell the name of his instrument on my drawing.

wow ... awesome ... sounds like it was the perfect day to be in Chinatown! Very sorry I couldn't make it ... I was still in bad shape this morning from a flu I've been fighting the last few days ... feeling a bit better now.
Look forward to see more of the day's drawings from the whole group !

This was my very first sketchcrawl and I felt overwhelmed and very lucky to have been able to meet such incredible artists today. Took a stroll around the neighborhood, ran into a few people I never would've expected to be in Chinatown today, and got some sketching done. Here's my little slice of sketchcrawl:

It was great to see a few familiar faces and meet some new ones too. It's always a pleasure at the end of day to view everyone's work. Look forward to the next crawl and seeing more art work being posted.

Re: San Francisco [RESULTS]
A very successful day. My thanks to all who showed up and taken on this sunny sketchcrawl day. I hope to see more drawings and pictures as we go along. I took some pictures and here's some.
I'll post the few drawings I did tomorrow. If you'd like to see the rest of the photos I took of our day go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paperbiscu ... 652291410/
Ronnie del Carmen
P.S.
Oh, I had a lapse in brain function when I passed Kendal Cronkite on the way back from lunch to Portsmouth Square. I was looking her direction and I blinked in recognition and so did she but I couldn't place her just then--until I was about twenty paces further. Kendal! I just met her this morning! Oh, what a dunce I was. Anyway, please accept my apologies. I hope to make up for it, I don't know how. Somebody send me her email?

Ronnie Thanks for the photos! What a group we were, heh.
Cameron Nice watercolor, rich color, nice scene.
Hawaiianpunch You should put your website on the profile you use for Sketchcrawl. That becomes a window into the rest of your work. By the way, I remember seeing your drawings while I was talking to the guy from Long Island, and being impressed by them. Then I saw the erhu player and your lion head. Wow! you really captured the look and spirit of them. C'mon, give us your website too!
Maki Thanks!

John D : Done and done. As soon as I got home last night I wanted to go to bed, but had to put up my sketches first. So, I had to register in the forums first, and never really thought about adding my info yet. Sorry for the delay.John D wrote:Ronnie Thanks for the photos! What a group we were, heh.

It was a great time yesterday and I plan on coming to more. I really felt like I pushed myself out of my comfort zones (comic book caricatures) with this event and, while I see flaws, as most artists tend to do on their own work, I'm ultimately happy with what came out of it. The other sketchbooks I saw were just amazing and gave me the push to continue improving. Good job everyone and I want to see more of those sketches posted. NOW!

Great work guys!
John D, that second portrait is really cool, love the shot of the Chinatown street.
Hawaiianpunch, those inks are great. The lampost sketch is amazing!
Cameron C, very nice watercolours, you got the lampost in there to.
Buscuit Maker, great photos! Anyone know how many people turned up?

What a beautiful day! there were so many wonderful and talented people
The architecture in Portsmouth Park really wrecked me. A wake up call to practice more!
large version http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3655/343 ... a7e4_b.jpg
a very tough guy with big muscles carrying a baby in a soft pink felt blanket...
there were pieces of meat hanging in the open window here. we were at once intrigued and frightened.
I don't think this happened, did it?
We ran into a scavenger hunt. I'm not sure what happened next...
