Phoenix, Arizona, USA [RESULTS]
Re: Phoenix, Arizona, USA
Okay for the Phoenix Zoo.
Just as a side comment NOT related to the Sketchcrawl. For you participants that are on the far east side of "greater Phoenix" check out Schnepf Farm. It looks like a fun place for some Autumn fun. http://www.schnepffarms.com/ It's in Queen Creek.
But for this Sketchcrawl it looks like the Phoenix Zoo will be our meeting place. See you there at 9 a.m.

Phoenix Zoo is good with me! See you all then. I'll be at schnepp farms with the kids the following day so maybe i'll get to make it a double header.

I wondered about Schnepf's Farm. I couldn't tell from the website if it would be a good place to draw or not. I'd love to hear what you all think of it.

Not looking forward to the long drive but I think is should be great there. We used to go to Young's farm each year and miss it since it closed. I am guessing it will be a great spot for sketching but with the little ones along I might not get much done.
I can't wait for the Zoo tomorrow morning! See you all there!

The heat got me a bit more than I expected, but I got home with a ... not too bad.... little watercolor sketch. I may go back a bit later after a cool down.
Should this be put in a results thread? Newbie, as you can tell!

Just got back from the Phoenix Zoo - Annie reported that there were 18 of us there but it was so crowded I think I only saw 4 or 5 of them. Had a hard time finding sketching locations with all of the people but managed to squeeze in three today. I'll post sans and photos later tonight - my wife came along just to take photos and there are hundreds to pick through.
Great to see everyone again!! Can't wait for the next crawl!

I love both of your watercolors! The camels are especially cool.

While we were having lunch at the zoo, two young admirers decided to join Craig to try their hand at sketching, too.
As is my usual mode of operation, I photograph scenes I like and then draw from them. Photos don't move or walk away.
Koalas are just darn cute, what else can I say.
And then there were the Warty Pigs.....also cute in their own special way, especially when they cuddle up like this. Like the saying goes, "Love is blind."
And the anteater.....I didn't know they could roll around like this....and be playful no less! This one was playing with a piece of what looked like tree trunk and was having the greatest time.
Here are the photos........
Here are a few that I didn't get to sketch........
Tortoises in love.....can you believe it?
This baboon seemed to do its best to ignore humans although it sat fairly close to the viewing window. Once in a while for a second or two it would turn and look. It looked so melancholy.

Annie: Wow - you got a lot done after I left - these are all fantastic. Great perspective on the giraffe area!
Mossgate: great ones as always! Thanks for posting the photos, that was a blast.

The animal sketches were great; glad you didn't let the heat get you down and persevered!

Just a few pix. My wife took over 1500 photos so i just grabbed a few. It was still hot (upper 90s) but it had been over 100 for a long time so it could have been much worse - a beautiful sunny day in Phoenix.
