Dallas - Texas - USA
Hey everybody, this is my first time to attend a SketchCrawl, although I've wanted for several months now to participate! I've never seen a Dallas SketchCrawl on here, so if you are from anywhere in the Metroplex and would like to participate, don't be shy and let me know if you would like to join in the sketching!
Welcome to the forum Jehucampos.
Sometimes one has to start the process and little by little others will join in. We are glad you have decided to post, and we hope you can share sketches from your location.

an idea for where to go & how to det around
Emily Su has an idea to hold the Dallas Sketch Srawl on the DART rail. we can all meet at Mockingbird Station by a certain time, and travel to location after location together on the rail. All you'd have to do is buy a day pass (i think it's sitll $2.50) to go up and down the Blue & Red lines.
This way, we could go to several places downtown, get out, sketch, jump back on and go up town. If people want to meet at their schools and draw for awhile in the morning, then car pool to the nearest DART station, that'd work.
we could even draw people on the train!
We'd probably want to set a time for all the groups to meet at a central station, like Mockingbird, where the Angelika Theatre is located.
Emily is doing some research on monday.
let me know what you think.

hey
Hey im down to do the sketch crawl......
but
riding the DART rail all day.....mannnnnnnn i hate the DART rail....maybe if we meet at the DART, and ride down to a cafe in the west end.
Then we could draw there.
I guess im pretty burnt out on the Dart rail.
It was my only mode of transportation at one point.....lol

ah...i get it. i guess DART could start to wear on the soul...
i only ride the train on a rare occasion, especially to do the even rare-er lucrative freelance work in downtown Dallas. so, maybe i'm nostalgic. actually, since i found a cheap parking garage, i just drive downtown, now.
i think the idea of the Sketch Crawl is to keep moving, tho, and draw the world around you. not our typical "dallas sketch group" thing. since we sit in a bookstore, cafe, or a room with bars on the windows (remember austin? lol. it was just yesterday...) and most people aren't drawing from life, but from their imaginations.
this could be a chance to do something different.
we could maybe take the DART for a small number of major transports, and sketch in a few places at each stop. I just don't see everyone (well, about 4+ of us, now) driving everywhere.
if we want to pick one long walking tour, like the Arts District might turn out to be, that'd be good, too.

we probably don't have to ride it all day, but we can take it from stop to stop and get off to draw at each station and the places surrounding it, and then regroup and do it again for the next stop. We can even ride it in a complete round trip to draw in the train and then do the stops, or vice versa (hehe, pretty much what J Marshall said. And it doesn't have to be short stops (we do have all day )
Accuweather says it will be sunny and breezy, so being outside shouldn't be a major problem.
There's also plenty of places we can stop for lunch (we can even draw our food!) if we stay close to the dart.
So many possibilities!
I think the carpooling idea is great, too.
I'll relay these concerns over to the facebook event for those that haven't ventured over here yet.

Is my executive decision to make the UTD meeting time at 10:00 AM (expecting for people to show up until 10:30ish at the latest) alright with everybody here? we could meet at Mockingbird station at 11:30 (that should be plenty of time to get there without hurry) and start the actual group crawling at around this time. drawing can go on until whenever people need to go or develop irreversible carpal tunnel syndrome. As a group we can decide details of the direction of our crawl or just go where the wind may take us. I'll be sending out a message on the FB event tomorrow morning and announcing these times in my classes, if this is fine? No response or a Yes both mean Huzzah...

sounds like a good plan. non-UTDers could just meet at Mockingbird Station. and 11:30 is our normal time to roll-up and start sketching on Sundays, so that's a good fit for this Saturday event.
we'll exchange some contact info off-line, and I should probably wear a yellow rose in my lapel so you know who I am (yeah, right!).

damn, tony. we don't have to ride the DART!!! j/k, yo!
yeah, it seems it's gonna be kinda cold to sketch outside. it'll be nice and toasty in HPB on Sunday, for sure, and there's sure to be a crowd. sounds like Em is under the weather right now, too.
It should be sunny on Sat., and i'll be at Mockingbird around 11:30am to meet up with everyone.
