NEW PLYMOUTH, TARANAKI, NEW ZEALAND. [Results]
Sketching in New Plymouth tomorrow with The Taranaki Sketchers:
Our theme is local parks and gardens. We are planning on sketching on our own within the theme in the morning, then we will meet at 1.30pm at Pukekura Park by the band rotunda. All welcome, see you there.

Re: NEW PLYMOUTH, TARANAKI, NEW ZEALAND. [Results]
It was a bitterly cold day today, dull but at least not raining. It is the middle of winter in New Zealand at the moment, so we had to think of indoor and outdoor alternatives.
In the morning I went to the Kunming Gardens. New Plymouth has a sister city relationship with Kunming in China which began in 2003. The agreement and memorandum of understanding was signed in New Plymouth on 11 August 2003 and in Kunming on 8 October 2003. The Mayor of Kunming gifted a garden to the city’s people. In collaboration with landscape professionals from the Council a team of designers from the Kunming Landscaping Bureau created a traditional Chinese garden within Pukekura Park. At present a garden is being created in Kunming in reciprocation.
I drew the Spring Wind Pavilion:
I then went and met the rest of our sketch group. Because I was so cold by then I elected to do my next sketch in the fernery at Pukekura Park. It's lovely and warm in there, and very peaceful.
I decided to try the fish:
The challenge was to get the effect of water and the mist floating across it.
You can throw coins into the pool and Make a Wish. The money is used to buy fish food. A lot of people must make wishes as the fish are quite fat!
