Taranaki, New Zealand [RESULTS]
We live on the western lump of the North Island. Both our mountain and province is called Taranaki.
Today our Indian summer finally broke to the delight of the farmers. To avoid the downpours we headed to the driest part in the province we could find, the Stratford Pioneer Village. http://www.pioneervillage.co.nz/
Located half way around the mountain (our dormant volcano) about half an hour from New Plymouth, we drew various relocated early settlers buildings and their implements.
Half a dozen of us turned up, as others of The Taranaki Sketchers drew in other parts of the country.
Firstly the Court House
Next a row of settlers shops and library, with the train in the foreground
Every New Zealand pioneer village needs a Fergie tractor to clean up - Stratford's was no exception
In yesteryear the tractor to clean up was this 1948 Farmall, in the implements barn
A little church sat on the hill
More to come from the others

Re: Taranaki, New Zealand [RESULTS]
On a showery cold day we headed down to the Taranaki Pioneer Village near Stratford. I stuck to sketching indoors. I started in the old Pembroke School. This is still a working school room as classes can visit the Pioneer Village and have the experience of dressing as children used to dress in Pioneer days and have the lessons play the old games the pioneer children used to play.
Here is the old Pembroke School Room:
I went back to pen drawing with this one.
After lunch I went up to the Mangatoki Church, (this is the church in the photo above).
In 1904 the need for a local church resulted in a Union Church being built to serve local Methodists, Anglicans and Presbyterians. Mr Blackhall of Eltham submitted the successful tender for the church. The final church service was held at Mangatoki on 14.2.1988. The church was then moved to the Taranaki Pioneer Village in two sections on 29.3.1988 and 30.3.1988.
The Mangatoki Women's Institute continue to care for the church and the gardens.
This is the beautiful old wooden pulpit:
This one I did in pencil and my new watercolours.

Salut et merci beacoup Francoise. Aussi for all the Monpelliers on behalf of Trevor
Sketch by Julie who was on the other side of the island
"50 cycle enthusiasts set out on a bus for the Hauraki Cycle Trail with most of the bikes following on a trailer. A spring broke, causing the trailer to break down. So what to do while waiting for a new trailer? I must have been the only one happy to fill in half an hour. The cycle duly went ahead and a great day had by all.
So that's the way I spent my Sketch Crawl day"
