Phoenix, AZ - USA

Post by crgcas »

I can't remember what the suggestions were when we were at the last crawl. Any good ideas? April should be perfect outdoor weather to be outside here.

I remember Mystery Castle being mentioned.
We've talked about Chaparral Park in Scottsdale.

And there's always the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert. I hope there will still be spring flowers by then.

For a city crawl there's the canal in Scottsdale at Marshall Way.
Or the Arizona Center in downtown Phoenix.

Any thoughts on these?

Phoenix Sketchcrawlers..

You folk have a challenge to find another place or venue as good as your January one..
I really enjoyed your sketches of the reptiles.

Anyway good luck selecting an April theme or location.

Cheers

If we are going to do the Myster Castle this year, this would probably be the best time before the real heat arrives.

I am up for any of those. I need to be back in N. Phoenix a little after lunch for a fundraiser but should be able to get 3 or 4 sketches in. The weather should be nice! Look forward to seeing everyone again.

The forecast for next Saturday is in the 90s. Does that sway anyone?

I am still game - 90 is cool when it is dry ;-)

Strong opinions on locale? Don't remember talking about Chaparral Park - is it a good spot? I am up for anything.

I am also open. Chaparral is just a nice city park. It's big, and there's a dog park included. Not as unique as the castle, or as lunch friendly as the canal (if you all even have time for that). Mossgate, do you have a preference?

Mystery Castle will radiate a lot of heat I suspect being that so much is desert, concrete and stone. Fascinating place but not so great for 90+ unless you like sweating a lot.
Would opt for a place with access to drinks and shade. Mystery Castle is also a bit of a drive if you have to be somewhere else in the afternoon. Hmmmmm......
Need to think about this........... be back soon.

Okay.....how about the Japanese Friendship Garden? Trees, water, shade, close to a really cute lunch place....can't remember name I think just a short drive north on the intersection of McDowell I think. Great brownies there, too.

A small bag of cherri-o's are 50 cents at the garden. The koi love them. Admission I think is $5.
How's that............?

I forgot to emphasize the koi fish. They will blow your mind. There is plenty to sketch in that place.
I need to gripe a little here...... I place images on various websites and never have a problem. I don't know what is so unique about this one that I have such a headache doing it. I would love to include a few photos here to show you how wonderful the koi are but unfortunately it ain't gonna happen. Just take my word for it.

The friendship garden doesn't open until 10am. :-( I'm not a morning person so I'd usually be all over that, but C needs to leave early.

The Friendship Garden is a lot closer to north Phoenix than Chaparral Park which is in Scottsdale. Guess we should let Craig make the decision considering he has the least amount of time.

The Scottsdale canal might be better than Chaparral because there are coffee places etc around there. But I'd be happy to draw any of these, so yes, Craig, it's up to you! No pressure. :-D I'm even prepared to get up early so just let us know and we'll be there.

LOL, you don't need so schedule around me! I will be in until at least 2pm. I LOVE the friendship garden and have done 2 SketchCrawls there already. The Koi and sketching subjects are indeed top-notch. Cons are very few places to eat nearby (non walking distance anyway) and the late opening time.

Hadn't ever thought of the canal - where would be a good place to meet up there?
