Munich, Germany [RESULTS]

Post by textiledreamer »

Of course we're not going to miss the 5th SketchCrawl anniversary.

Since it's November, and thus pretty cold even if the weather is nice, we're thinking of making another attempt at the Völkerkundemuseum. The last couple of times there were four of us, maybe we can make it to five this time?

Hi Constanze,

thanks for posting !
Yes, of course, I am in - suggest to meet at
11 am in the museum (somewhere between the cafe and the cash desk).

Looking forward to lots of sketching (in heated surroundings) to really test my new sketchbook (handmade with 3 different papers; based on results I will then make 1-2 more for my vacation in February).

Let's hope for a "large" group this time !

Yes, we managed a new record today with 5 participants at the Völkerkundemuseum. Here's the proof:

Sorry, I just dropped my mouse and broke it in the middle of uploading and posting today's drawings. But I still managed to post some of them on my gallery page, so you can take a look there.

Five of you! Yeahi. Seems you are in the center of action and picture;)
Are your friends going to join in the share-fest, too?

See, when your mouse is o.k. again - maybe "mouse-flu"?

Congratulations for the growing group. Everyone looks so happy with their awesome sketches. I love the wooden spoon and the clay pot.

I managed to acquire a new mouse today and to scan all my sketches. You can still find them here. I'll include some of my favourites in this post.

Here are some of my drawings.
An ancient wooden ox cart from Asia:

A close-up of one of the wooden wheels:

A carved bird's head from the South Pacific:

And an old canoe from the South Pacific:

And a final word of caution: We went to the Ethnological Museum for some protected indoor drawing on this Sketchcrawl. So don't plan a trip to Munich expecting to see these ancient means of transportations in the streets and on the river in Munich!

Good point Wolfgang !

So here are mine - as you can see I am still fighting with perspective and also have not yet really internalized the "less is more - at least sometimes" rule

Islamic portal for a start.

Some patterns ; the floral motif is from an exquisite hand stitched quilt:

A wooden arved altar from Samoa on the left, printed patterns on the right:

Upstairs in the North American department:

Here the feather/plume headdress in a bit more detail - white feathers, cut in a zig-zag fashion
Image

We had good day, incl, a nice lunch (and coffee/cake break later) to chat and share the sketches - and it was easy to regroup (the little cafe is just next to the entry/exit of the museum - so you just cannot exit without another coffee)

I have recently taken a course to learn to bind my own books - so all sketches were done in my new book (A5 format), with 3 different kinds of paper to test which one I like best (currently the 220 gms watercolor paper from Boesner's Grand Bloc seems to win the contest). This will allow the book to be slightly larger (approx. 16x24 cm versus 14x20 now) but it needs to be a bit thinner, it is too heavy !
Looking forward to the next sketcrawl - and to see all the dots on the map where #25 was done !

What I forgot to mention earlier-

again Wolfgang had a good technical tip for us; the one from July's sketchcrawl was his water brush pen - which I had read about but never seen one ! bought one (in UK but they are now available here, saw one at Boesner) and love it  . Thanks for sharing !

Nice collection of work; I enjoyed it. The bookmaking craft sounds interesting.
