Paris, France [RESULTS]

Post by oludotunf »

Welcome!

The 56th World Wide SketchCrawl will take place on Saturday July 29 at the southern part of Parc de la Villette.

Map: lavillette.com/carte-interactive/

The southern part of Parc de la Villette extends from the Porte de Pantin to the Canal de l'Ourcq. In addition to the Philharmonic, the Cité de la Musique, the Paris Conservatory and the Grande Halle, it offers numerous sites where you can draw (canal, buried bicycle, bamboo forest, follies, carousels, sheep, etc.). You can obtain a detailed plan at the Folie Information, at the park entrance (211 avenue Jean-Jaurès).
In case of bad weather, it will be possible to take shelter inside the Grande Halle, at the Musée de la Musique, in the hall entrance of the Philharmonic or inside places where eating is possible, e.g., cafés and restaurants.

Below is the program we propose for the day:

10:30pm Welcome at the Fontaine des Lions
Access: Metro line 5 - station Porte de Pantin
Bus 75 and Tram T3b - stop Porte de Pantin

At this time of the day only the Café des Concerts is open in the park. It is a little expensive… but the terrace is lovely.

1:00pm Picnic at the Folie Café (on the Prairie du Triangle). Mini-sandwiches, mini-salads, drinks, it is a good and inexpensive option for those who are only a little hungry. Not many tables but we will sit on the grass or on our drawing stools.

For those who do not wish to picnic, there are several places where you can eat, like the Petite Halle (on the southern end of the Grande Halle), which is a spacious restaurant serving Italian dishes around 14/15€. At 200 avenue Jean Jaurès, across the street from the park, there is a Monop' having everything you can make a meal with.

There are free public toilets are dispersed throughout the park (see the map).

5:30pm Gathering at Jardin de la Petite Halle (on the southern end of the Grande Halle) in front of the restaurant Petite Halle. An informal place (a small forest), it includes a cabin where one can buy drinks. We will occupy the chairs and the tables as they become available. In case of bad weather, we will gather inside the restaurant Petite Halle.

The SketchCrawl is open to all, participants old and new, beginners or not. No registration is required, you only have to show up on D-day at the meeting points. (But if you have a Flickr account, feel free to confirm that you will be present!)

The SketchCrawl day at the Parc de la Villette was a lovely one.

Perfect weather (despite 1 minute of light showers), great turnout (about 40 people or so), and many things to draw.

For me it was nice to get back into the swing of things after 1 month of no sketches.

The numerous red follies scattered througout the park were a pleasant sight, and I warmed up one of the most relevant: the one at the park entrance that provides information and tickets (Information-Billettrie).

After a relaxing lunch with other sketchers on the terrace of Folie Café at the Prairie du Triangle, I set out for the drawing subject that I had had my eye on for over a year: La Bicyclette ensevelie.

We recovened in the afternoon in the garden café opposite the Petite Halle to look over the day's output over drinks.

It was one of the nicest summer evenings that I have had in a long time.

Thanks to Monique for organizing the day.

An interesting tour of the parc by way of your wonderful sketching, and attractive use of watercolor. I enjoyed it very much.
