Gold Coast, QLD, Australia (RESULTS)

Post by RebeccaArtist »

We truly did have an epic SketchCrawl this time around. Five intrepid explorers met up at the coffee shop and then headed out--not to the tram stop but to the beach!

After the beach we headed for the tram. Our mission: to use the tram to sketch as much of the Gold Coast as we could before 3pm, we got tired, or it got dark.

There are 16 tram stops. We make it through about half of them. Some of the time we didn''t leave the platform since trams come every 10-15 minutes. Just enough time for a quick sketch like this one of Sophie's:

Or this one of Rebecca's:

...especially if you finish it on the tram!

We ate well...coffee in the morning, Chinese for lunch, ice cream for a snack, and ramen/donburi for dinner.

Christine joined us after lunch. Here Sophie and Christine show off their works:

We started a community SketchCrawl sketchbook in an accordion book. This is the first image for the book. Lesley and Rebecca worked on it (not sure who else).

The number of sketchers shrunk as it got chillier but the ones that remained painted the sunset and quit sketching a bit past dark.

Are you ready for an epic SketchCrawl? This one will be a true drawing marathon -- and a true "crawl" as we make our way across the Gold Coast via the G:link tram. No promises we'll visit all 16 tram stops, but we'll definitely make tracks across the coast and we'll have a lot of fun along the way.

We'll meet up at 10 AM at a coffee shop near a tram stop (anyone got a favorite place they want to suggest?). We'll give ourselves about 15 minutes to have a cuppa and get everyone assembled and then we'll hit the rails. (Feel free to get there a bit early so you can draw that cuppa before you drink it!) If you think you might be joining us late make sure you have other people's phone numbers, otherwise we might never find each other. We'll have another nice sit down break for lunch and then head onward for a 2nd round so if mornings don't work for you, feel free to join in from lunch onward. I'll probably start slowly making my way home around 3 pm but you are welcome to keep drawing as long as you'd like.

Because we'll be on and off the tram, you'll probably want to get a go explore card. These cards are $10 and give you unlimited tram and bus access for a day. You can get them in a variety of locations including at 7-elevens. You can buy it in advance--just don't use it until Saturday because the clock starts ticking with its first use. http://translink.com.au/tickets-and-far ... go-explore

I also want everyone to chime in with their tips for cool places to draw that are within a block or two of a tram stop. You know your neighborhoods and frequent haunts--tell us about them now so once we set out we already have a rough community itinerary.

As usual, discussion is taking place on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SketchCrawlGoldCoast/

How fun! Definitely a good place to go out with a group to sketch. Amazing where everyone ends up sketching around the world. Nice work and a good idea - such quick sketches on the move and at the beach. Great to see.

We certainly did have a big day but it was so much fun getting off at the different tram stops to sketch, it was also my first time on a tram since I was a little girl and that was a long..... time ago.
