Long Island, NY (Results)

Post by Joan T »

Today due to snowstorm Jonas, I wasn't able to get outside to sketch. We have had over 16 inches (41 cm) of snow so far. I decided to do my best and sketch from indoors.

First I sketched my coffee as it was being made on my kitchen counter.

That was quickly followed by breakfast...a clementine and an egg white omelette with spinach and cheese.

The wind was blowing and the snow was piling up. I pulled up the blinds in my living room and sat by the window to sketch the view outside. The snow on my patio railing was almost too high to see over. All my windows are on the same side of my building so this is pretty much the only view I see.

For a different view I opened my garage door. It faces the parking area where there were a lot of cars buried under a lot of snow. I was hoping there would be a few people digging out their cars but nobody was outside. I was able to rest my sketchbook on the trunk of my car while I sketched.

Just in case you were curious about what it actually looked like, here is a photo I took standing at my front door.

Cheers for you for sketching! No snow in Atlanta, just cold and windy.

Joan, that clementine looks totally delectable! I like how the snow provides for negative space in the sketch (but it's a challenge), you handled so well with the view from the garage.

Parker, thanks! I had to find a few things here to sketch. I would hate not to participate.

Sue, thanks so much!

Swasky, thanks for your comments. I enjoyed seeing your sketches too.

Pascal, glad you liked these.

Joan, I'm glad to see you sketched while snowbound. Terrific sketch of the cars, especially - that really tells the story. Hope you are doing OK despite the storm.

Thanks for checking our posts, Joan!
We are still waiting for more images here--only 4 of 20 people have posted so far. We do NOT have the excuse of weather or power outage.
You had some REAL weather to contend with! Looks like it would be hard to open the door if you wanted to. You are to be commended for sketching despite the terrible blizzard. We heard about it. Some kids were snowboarding from the roof of the cars? Your drawing of those cars is my favorite this sketchcrawl.
You portrayed the true coziness of home on a winter day
