Postby nycSketch » Tue Apr 15, 2014 1:26 am

URBAN EDGES-43rd World Wide Sketch Crawl

The 43rd global drawing marathon, World Wide Sketch Crawl, is on Saturday April 19th , 2014.
Come join NYC Urban Sketchers as we walk, explore and draw the forgotten urban edges along the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn and Dutch Kill in Queens. The day long event promises to be exciting and totally different from a typical day of sketching.

The day will be divided in 2 sessions, first a ferry ride from Manhattan to Red Hook (IKEA) to walk the Gowanus, then a train ride up to Long Island City. The drawings of Long Island City will be part of the In My Borough presentation at the Falchi Building.

Contact Info:
Richard 917 224 8373, Mark 973 809 9128

Session 1

11:20 AM Board the free Ikea ferry (You can also meet us on the Brooklyn side at the IKEA ferry terminal)
11:50 AM-2:30 PM-Explore the Gowanus. We will be joined by volunteers from the Gowanus Canal Conservancy.

Session 2
2:30 PM-3:00 PM-G train to Court Street Station, LIC

Some of us will already be on the Brooklyn side. Come find us near the Union Street Bridge or the Carroll Street Bridge over the Gawanus Canal. We should be there around 10/10:30.

Please look down in this thread because there are sketches posted as well as links.

Some of us started sketching at the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn and did not ever meet up with most of the other sketchers. We started out at the Union Street Bridge. Here is a photo of it.

I sketched the bridge and the bridge house.

Sunil joined us at the next location which was the Ninth St Bridge.

I sketched several views.

Our last location was near the Whole Foods Store. There is a park-like walkway around the parking lot with views of the canal.

Great sketches, Joan. Buildings, bridges, and perspective all look good. Love the polka dotted cement trucks. Glad you got them uploaded. I have been looking for them. I looked on the NYC Urban Sketchers this morning but there wasn't much on there yet.
