Despite frigid conditions and a forecast of snow, 12 sketchers came out at various times of the day to join us. Mark had scheduled two indoor locations for us, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens Conservatory and the Brooklyn Musuem which are next to each other.
Susan and I arrived early and sketched this replica of the Statue of Liberty from her van in the parking lot. It is by an unknown American artist c. 1900.
We headed into the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens passing the famous Japanese pond. It was a lot frostier yesterday than the last time we sketched here in the Spring when the cherry blossoms were in bloom.
The greenhouses had several rooms. I sketched a bonsai plant and a muss 'Braziliana' from the banana family.
Mark, Pat, Louis, Svetlana, and Joy were in the tropical room.
Susan was sketching the tropical fan palm.
I also did a desert sketch.
At lunch I did a sketch of Joy sketching.
For the afternoon session we went to the Brooklyn Museum. In the Egyptian exhibit I did a sketch of a statue of a cloaked official from the Middle Kingdom (1759 - 1675BC) and a figure of a cat (305 BCE t 1st century CE).
Pat was sketching on her iPad.
Mary and Mark were sketching the statue.
Shawne was sketching a small statue.
We headed downstairs and Susan, Shawne, Joan (me) and Joy sketched a statue of a woman.
I liked this view of the lobby from above.
There were also some interesting masks to sketch. I did two.
It was a good day of sketching followed by a long ride home in the snow.
Hopefully there will be more sketches to come as some of the other NYC sketchers add their posts, so please check back.

Beautiful sketches, and what a lot of variety with both botanical garden and museum. Looks like fun.
Re: NYC Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl (RESULTS)
What a great place to sketch! Really enjoyed seeing the variety of nice sketches. Also to see someone working on an iPAD!
Re: NYC Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl (RESULTS)
You certainly got a lot done! I think my favorites are the tropical plants from the botanical gardens, and the coat check line at the museum. Nice to see some photos of the other sketchers too.
Re: NYC Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl (RESULTS)
Thanks, Debora. With the two locations we had something for everyone.
Kjulin - Thanks. Most of us sketched on paper, but Pat usually uses her iPad and does a great job.
Mickey - Thanks. I hope some of the other sketchers post too...or send me photos of their sketches. I should have taken some photos of the sketches as the day went on.

Wow, you created such diverse works and visited many fun places! What a terrific series! Thank you for taking us to these area through your sketches!
Re: NYC Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl (RESULTS)
It's impressive that the interior of the museum is light, which would be very helpful for sketching. Enjoyed all your sketches in both places. Especially I love the coat check drawing seen from the above.

Kumi - Thanks so much!
Bh Yoo - Thanks. Most of the museum has great light and was good for sketching. They also let us use just about any materials there.
Archiartist - We had a choice of a lot of scenes between the two locations. Thanks.
Da Costa - Thank you.
Sophie - Many thanks for your comments.
