Mill Creek / Everett, Washington

Post by maiyo »

Hello,

I just moved into this area of Washington state from San Francisco, California, and would love to meet some nearby sketchers.

I can only think of Silver Lake (Everett) and Lowell Larimer Road (Everett) which overlooks a valley, farms, and Snohomish, as possible places to sketch. So ideas are welcomed! :D

Cheers,
Mai

Just moved up here from the Bay Area as well! Sadly I don't know Snohomish that well yet; though the beaches down in Edmonds seem pretty nice. Would definitely be interested in exploring new areas for sketching!

@Story - Hi and welcome to Washington! Maybe we can find something interesting between Edmonds and Mill Creek/Snohomish if it ends up being just the two of us. At the moment, I have my two feet and the bus system to rely on for transportation, which makes things interesting for me.

Downtown Seattle is another option to consider. :D

By the way, your dog illustrations are awesome! And Story is quite the muse. :)

I checked out North Creek Trail in Mill Creek earlier this week and think this would be a great stretch with lots of scenic spots to paint and/or sketch. It stretches about 7.25 miles between Everett and Bothell; you'll find me in the northern part of the trail between 128th Street SE (Martha Lake/Everett) and the Mill Creek Town Center.

If anyone else is interested, please feel free to join me there between 10 AM and 3 PM. I know many SketchCrawl events start around 9 AM, but I'm not an early bird. :P

The closest address to the starting spot is: McCollum Park Park & Ride, 620 128th Street SE, Martha Lake, WA 98208

The start of the trail is in the southeastern end of the park and ride (address listed above) that looks like: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6h8Pn ... sp=sharing

The ending spot is: Top Pot Doughnuts, 15311 Main Street, Mill Creek, WA 98012 -- http://www.yelp.com/biz/top-pot-doughnuts-mill-creek

Here's a Google Map with the park and ride, starting and ending points, and the wind-down spot pinned: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=21 ... 2,0.090551

I'll be wearing a light blue Northface backpack and armed with my sketchbook.

Hope to see you and happy sketching! :D

PS - I apologize for the last-minute update and making a decision without consultation. I don't mean to offend anyone and just wanted to share a great location I serendipitously found.

Edit: Had to change the map link since Google's new map engine wasn't sharing the map properly.

A related group, Urban Sketchers, exists, centered in Seattle. http://seattle.urbansketchers.org/ Please join us sometime. We were out sketching yesterday. Join the associated Google group for discussions about "ad hoc" sketch outings. A few sketchers are gathering at a local coffee shop today.

I'll be the "sketcher in residence" at the Museum of History and Industry today (MOHAI). They have a wonderful exhibit on "The Seattle Sketcher" from the Times who is also the founder of Urban Sketchers. I'll be sure to tell the patrons who come to sketch with me that they are also participating in the 42nd WWSK day!

Info on the sketchcrawl today in Seattle (short notice)
from Tina: "This is short notice, but I just remembered that this Saturday is Worldwide Sketchcrawl day! Anyone want to join me at Couth Buzzard Books in the Greenwood neighborhood? I admit, I've never sketched there, but I've walked through, and they have a cafe, stage area and lots of bookcases of used books. I looked at their calendar for this Saturday, and it says: "11:00am FOLK MUSIC JAM w/STEW." I have no idea what that means, but I'm willing to take a chance! :-) Here's where I will be:

Saturday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Couth Buzzard Books
8310 Greenwood Ave N"

There was also an Urban Sketcher group trying to form in Bellingham but I've not heard anything about it in a year.
