Is there going to be a group SketchCrawl in Los Angeles? I know there are a few people who live in the area.
Just thought I'd start a thread.
Thanks!

Re: Los Angeles, CA?
Yes, there will be sketchcrawl in LA! Ideas on places to go and sketch are welcome! I suggest an indoor location for January sketching due to possibility of rain. We went to L.A. Central Library and Natural History Museum for past winter crawls.
There is also a Facebook group for L.A. Sketchcrawl - feel free to check it out:

Re: Los Angeles, CA?
Hi everyone,
It is forecasted to be very windy but sunny (high 75/low 49 degrees) with no rain, so let's try sketchcrawling in historical core of downtown LA, starting at Millennium Biltmore Hotel. We can walk to Bradbury Building, Angels Flight, Grand Central Market, and/or Los Angeles Central Library, weather permitting.
Meet at:
Saturday, January 19, 2013
10:30am
Millennium Biltmore Hotel - Meet at the entrance facing 5th Street
506 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90071
Virtual tour of Biltmore Hotel at: http://www.millenniumhotels.com/millenn ... tours.html
Walking guide and map: http://www.laconservancy.org/tours/downtown/index.php
Parking/Transportation:
Around $7 in garage/lot near Olive Street and 5th Street, by Pershing Square
$1 parking (with validation at Central Library - Los Angeles Public Library card required) at 524 South Flower Street
There may be street parking but read the signs carefully.
Nearest metro stop: take Red Line to Pershing Square Station
Meals:
food stalls at Grand Central Market
Keep on sketching!

Re: Los Angeles, CA?
Also, less historic but good for people watching (maybe not on a cool, windy day), is the garden and staircase across the street from the library on 5th. The grand central market's always great, even without crowds.
I got Villpu's "sketching on location" manual at CTNx. I'll be looking through it until Saturday, and I may bring it along. It might work to prime the pump, so to speak. I know that when I look at everyone's sketchbooks at the end of the day, I feel even more like drawing than I did at the start.

We'll see whether to sketch inside/outside depending on how many people show up and how chilly/windy that day turns out. Looking forward to sketching together!

I like these a lot especially the one with the train... Also very expressive faces that you drew. Well done!

Re: Los Angeles, CA?
It was so good to see everyone, some of you even came from afar! I'm glad the weather co-oporated as well - it's not every day that you get to see an outdoor ice skating rink on a sunny 75-degree day

Re: Los Angeles, CA?
I was able to sketch with the group at the Rendezvous Court in the Biltmore Hotel, which is adorned with Moorish carved wood ceilings, gold-leaf accents and Italian travertine stone walls.
Re: Los Angeles, CA?
Great sketches by all of you! The architectural ones and those of the people are great.
Re: Los Angeles, CA?
It was great meeting everyone at the sketchcrawl! I didn't make it back in time from Pershing Square, because I wanted to finish this sketch. This is the opposite end of Pershing Square from where the ice skaters were. It was done with Lamy fountain pen and pentel brush pen on 9"x12" hot press watercolor paper.
I'm going to try to add my image from Facebook. Hopefully, this will work.
I look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Nice drawings, everyone. I didn't quite realize how little I actually drew on this one. During the three and a quarter hours I was downtown, I managed to eat an Irish burrito, a crepe, and I got some groceries. So it wasn't a total waste. Back to basics!
