Atlanta, GA USA [RESULTS]

Post by debora »

Three of us met at Fernbank Science Center to sketch. It was a delightfully lively place, full of families with young children. "Grandpa and Grandma! Look at the Bambi!"

Anita found the beauty in a display about the effects of pollution on egrets.

Anita also painted this osprey.

I drew the Apollo 6 command module, listening to the sound of its launch countdown as people replayed the video. I grew up watching the Apollo launches on TV. Next to the space flight display was a taxidermied loggerhead turtle which children could touch.

Fernbank Science Center opened in 1967 and is owned and operated by our county school system. My daughter took several excellent classes there while she was in high school. Sadly, this summer the school system is having to make major budget cuts.

Thank you for your welcome comments, Debora. I did have fun sketching in this fasinating city. The statue is of Roger Conant, considered the founding father of Salem. I will work on enlarging the photos in the future. Meanwhile, keep sketching. . .Your site is so interesting, the birds are lovely . . .the turtle too!
