Watercolour Travel Sets

The Sakura Koi sets are wonderful. The consistency is close to Sumi-e ink.

I use http://www.dickblick.com/zz003/67/, both the transparent and opaque, and ...

watercolour set

Post by 4ojos »

I use a Windsor&Newton Cotman14 colours watercolour set, but the original colours were gone long ago and I refill the pans with any other brand (lately a very weird and shitty indian brand called "Camel")
Years ago I used a quite expensive metal box of Schminke (a german brand) but it was too bulky for me and I changed it around 5 years ago for the plastic, less fashionable W&N. Here´s a shot of my old box.

Hi - just found this forum and reading through new and old posts.

I've used the Yarka watercolours frequently. Folks say they aren't archival and not up to W&N standards but I've enjoyed using them for sketching and particularly like some of their earth colours. They are somewhat more granulating than other w/c.

pebeo

Post by 4ojos »

I´ve just got a french Pebeo metal box with 12 half pans for 14 euro (12USD). The pans were half empty but it looks like is the way some manufacturers have for drying the colours

My take on the watercolor Altoid box

Post by Zan »

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post to the sketching forum. I am getting ready for the 12th sketchcrawl. In preparation, I have made this Altoid box to carry with me. It is a more elaborate take on the altoid box, but I really enjoyed doing it and hope you will try it out. Here is the link to a detailed how to on my blog:

For my birthday I got a little Winsor Newton Cotman watercolor kit. It's in a hard plastic clamshell case that opens up, with three trays of four watercolor pans. There's a brush inside and two palettes that pop out. I got a chance to use it over the holiday weekend and I really like it. Very easy to use and highly portable. The whole thing is about the size of a case for glasses. My only problem with it is that one of the trays of four pans is a duplicate, and there is no blue included in the colors. Confused me. I should be able to get some blues at the local art store, and then we're "super green."

Student colors

Post by Zan »

I know we are mostly sketchers here, but folks you have got to get your hands on Artist colors and throw away your student colors if you want to really enjpy using watercolors on your sketches.
