Hi Sketchcrawlers!
If you're waiting for Paris results to see sketches of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre museum or other monuments of this beautiful city, you'll be probably a bit disappointed
The 34th SketchCrawl took place in a very special parisian building: the "104". Until 1997, this 40,000-square-meter space housed the "Pompes Funèbres" - the Municipal Funeral Services for Paris. It was practically a city within itself, and included stables (originally, then garages), manufactories, offices and amenities for all of the people working in the auxilliary trades that surround the undertaking business. (more history here: http://www.104.fr/#/en/CENTQUATRE/5-History).
It is now an arts center run by the City of Paris, and popular neighborhood hangout. Studios are available for short-term residencies, concerts (apparently Lou Reed was there recently!) and contemporary art exhibitions are held in the various halls. There are bookshops, cafés, an Emmaus shop (kind of like a Salvation Army), and a children's center.
Today, between free Qiqong sessions, people toyed with multimedia screens or lounged about on deckchairs. Some kids were rehearsing a play in one alcove, in another a pair worked out some hip-hop dance moves, in yet another some actors were doing theatre rehearsals. A group of jugglers were practicing at one end of an open space, and people lined up to pile onto an interactive art installation.
You can imagine that it was easy to find inspiration for parisian sketchers (today we were about 40 people!) in such a place. Here my sketches, other drawings will follow:
Some sketchcrawlers
The "Pizza Bus" (with wooden pizza oven!)
Hip-hop dancers
See you at the 35th SketchCrawl!
