"509 Urban Sketchers & Painters" Tri Cities, WA [RESULTS]

Post by grayshoe »

The "509 Urban Sketchers & Painters" are an open group of sketchers living in and around the Tri-Cities in Washington state.

Today we ventured down to Clover Island, a man-made island in the Columbia River which is connected to the mainland at Kennewick, WA. Over the past few years the city has been improving features on the island. It's looking much better these days than in years past.

All images posted here were created on Clover Island today; with the splendid exception of the one on the bottom.

Nancy T couldn't be with us today since she is in mainland China visiting her daughter; however she was with us in spirit as she emailed this beatiful sketch of one of their temples which she sketched on Saturday while there. Thank you, Nancy. This is a real treat!!!

Pat sketched Cedars Restaurant with the railroad bridge in the background.

Pat also created this gorgeous view of the Cable Bridge.

Image

Jean's view of the Columbia River, Blue Bridge, and the far background, Badger Mountain. Unfortunately Jean's image was captured with a low quality cell phone belonging to your's truly, and the image is a bit muddled. Sorry Jean, we'll do better next time, when I remember to bring the batter for my regular camera.

Jan came up with a very stylish image of the lighthouse. We think it is one of her best sketches yet.

This is Dave's rendition of the Pioneer Woman sculpture in the foreground with main street, building lining it and the Cable Bridge in the background.

Image

Jim's creation of the same image as Dave, but from the other side of the street.

Image

Jim also captured this view of the lighthouse with river in background and visitor's pathway leading to it.

Image

And last, but certainly no where close to least, this image of the two young girls (Emilie and Katherine) who would have joined us were it not for the questionable weather this morning when we started out. Mom, Yichien, sent us the image with an email while we were out, saying they had decided to join us "in spirit" by working in their sketchbooks at home. How wonderful!!
