New Plymouth, New Zealand [RESULTS] under the mountain
NEW PLYMOUTH, TARANAKI, NEW ZEALAND
New Plymouth is half way up the North Island on the left, in the green province of Taranaki. We look out on a symetrical dormant volcano, also called Taranaki (and called Mt Egmont).
Surprisingly our city recently won 'the world's most livable city award' for pop 20,000 - 70,000. We have a well patronised coastal walkway, and our millenium project was a large kinetic wind wand. Industries include dairy, and oil and gas. South of the city is the Surf Highway 45 around the mountain. If we look out to the Tasman Sea, Australia is about as far as LA is to Chicago.
Because the world's day starts with New Zealand, we have the privilege of sketching first, and of course the day is extra fresh as it hasn't been used up yet
Our sketchers normally post each week here http://taranakisketcher.springnote.com/pages/3442731
These are some of our sketchers who participated in Sketchcrawl day
Trevor
Liz
Scott
Jackie
Most of us started at 10am and gradually sketched our way up the main street, Devon Street, with a show and tell lunch at Petit Paris.
Devon Street scene above Kitchen shop Etcetera - Scott
Devon St West - between the trees - Trevor
Side door to Kina Gallery - NZ Design and art space, where we all first met.
Front of the Opera House - Trevor
Touring bikes from Palmerston North, the bikers were interested in where the final sketchcrawl postings could be seen - Scott
Expresso Cafe, where the bikers were inside watching us sketch - Trevor
View from the Huatoki Plaza towards the wind wand - Liz
The wind wand - a 45m kinetic sculpture
Waitara View - Jackie
2003 Land Rover Defender parked nearby - Scott
Porche, parked next to the Landy - Trevor
L'Escargot Restaurant, a former 1870 Bank Building - Scott
Side door to the Irish Peggy Gordons Celtic Bar - the band from last nights gig were getting their gear out and were interested in the concept of a sketch crawl as opposed to a pub crawl. The guy setting up the tables outside, left the door closed longer for me to sketch, and said he was going to get his pens out and start sketching again - Scott

-- New Plymouthinians, you rock!
Seemed to be a not sooo nice weather, ut at least dry and sunny faces.
Thank you for sharing your phot report and your sketches going along - I esp. like the 1993 Land Rover, *sigh*.
See you,
T

* Danke schön Mr Submarine for your encouragement, you must be king of shading and crosshatching. I too wouldn't have minded driving away in the 'Defender', except when I had to fill up. Thanks for the moderating.
* Khop khun krub eyes, we are fortunate to have a lot of variety to draw, but so too do you in Thailand, and lots of colour you use.
* Anyong haseayo Kim, I have sketched temples and carvings in Korea when I briefly worked there. So you too are spoilt for choice
* Pranam Aparajitha, dhannyavaad for your comments. India too is rich in subjects, I liked drawing the autorickshaws
* Thanks Travelingsuep, your group was prolific, liked the ambassador's residence. I have never been to Oman but would like to.
It is a pity all the sketchers couldn't meet, but at least with Enrico's idea at least we can virtually.

Scott: Love that Land Rover!
Beautiful mountain/volcano - what an awesome backdrop. I need to visit there someday.

Domo arigato Kumi. You are keeping us all motivated.
Thanks Crgcas, I can see from your avatar the Landy might appeal. There is some good off-roading in NZ, perhaps a bit muddier than AZ
Thanks too Shawn and Dave. Are you sure you two aren't cousins? - your avatars have similarities
