San Francisco, CA, USA [RESULTS]

Postby roquesketch » Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:13 pm

I couldn't find a topic with the results of the fantabulous sketchcrawl in SF. So I'm taking the initiative... Hehehe.

I even learned how to play the ukelele! I could t ask for more! See you next sketchcrawl and I'm eager to see everyone's results posted in the forum. Here are mine. Please critique! Well, here are mine. I spent most of my time in the Presidio, the old decommissioned Army base. I was very surprised to see how the old cannons were often carved and ornately decorated. Somehow seems odd that a tool of death could be so beautiful...or maybe it should be. Some detail sketches along with some rubbings of the carvings.

I'm hoping one of the group pics get posted. There must have been 40 people this time?

The usual cold, slightly foggy summer morning in San Francisco. Here we are at the Warming Hut. Most of these people are sketchers. At left, Ryan is drawing the pier while Jo is drawing that poor little dog hitched to the wall while its person gets some coffee inside.
Image
More sketchers, tourists, cyclists. The Palace of Fine Arts in the distance, Eli in the foreground, painting the bay.

These passport type stamps can be found at the Warming Hut and other official park buildings and gift shops throughout the Presidio area. I stamped one on a blank page and then headed out for something to draw onto it. Former Coast Guard station (1890) under renovation near the Farrallones Marine Sanctuary visitor center.

Hey all you talented SF Sketchcrawlers! Great work! I'm so happy to see some of the work posted here that I didn't get a chance to see in person! I have no sketches to share, but here are some photos of our beautiful day!

Great sketches, you guys! Lots of expression and playfulness.

What a great day yesterday! Started out cold (like a typical summer day in SF), but the sun came out later to play. I started with a few sketches around the pier and of other sketchers:
Image
Image

There were so many runners everywhere--I got into doing some motion studies on the various gaits of the runners. Then the one on the bottom, I had studied the movement of the body, but I needed to stick a head on there, and this is the first thing that came to mind. (I guess I was hungry).
Image

Then I sat down to do a couple of landscapes. I was taken by the scale of these huge buildings that were dwarfed by the approach structure for the Golden Gate Bridge.
Image

At the Crissy beach/park, there were SO many dogs--all having a great time. I love drawing dogs, and I like the challenge of trying to freeze their motions in my mind long enough to get them onto paper.
Image

And then I got to the POFA and did my one watercolor for the day. (Actually, ink sketch with an application of watercolor pencils, worked over with a water brush--the first time I've used one of those. They rock!)
Image

It was a terrific day, and it was nice talking with y'all after the event. See you in October!
