Hi! This is Mike! The children were so curious, we asked them if they wanted try sketching, too.
They said yes, and listened carefully while John explained how to draw the monument.
Then I explained to them how to paint the monument. Then they just went to town!
Here's what one of them did. Awesome result!
Looking forward to visiting Chinatown again!

wow Honolulu sketchers, thats a wonderful post! Well done to the kids for joining in and well done to Mike for being in the moment and letting those kids join in. Most likely they will never forget that! You may have started a new generation of artists with your kindness and generosity !!!
Love the China Town!

I really enjoyed seeing all your sketches and the photos. Wonderful idea to get the kids involved in the sketchcrawl too. I loved seeing the altoid kits. Looks like you all had a great time. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Aloha, rozkeep, redhen & Joan T!
Thanks for the great comments! It was fun getting the kids to draw. It not only allowed Jenee to finish her work, but it also allowed us to give these kids a taste of what this kind of art was like. I always felt very fortunate to have met John & Min, and the other Sketchcrawlers. They were always so generous in sharing their time and artistic experience with me. This was just a way to do the same thing for someone else. Who knows, one of them might just be the next big artist of Hawaii, and we might have helped to nudge them in that direction!
If you are ever in Hawaii, let us know, or come by when we are doing a crawl!
Mahalo!
Mike (metaloxmike)
