Seattle, Washington USA [results]

Post by beth »

A lovely group converged on Seattle's Washington State Convention Center today. Hope we all manage to figure out how to upload our sketches!
Here is my ink/watercolor view looking down Union Street towards Elliott Bay:

Thanks to all of you who came from far and near to join in! Was great to see you all!
We missed Mark and have since learned he dislocated the shoulder of his sketching arm yesterday! Get well, Mark!!!

I love finding the preserved fragments of art-deco and art nouveau elements that were integral to older downtown Seattle buildings.

I wish I could capture the peculiarity of a forest built in a boxtop set atop a freeway surrounded by giant glassy buildings! Luckily Alkiart captured the same scene much better.

Seattle has changed so much since my younger days when the Smith Tower (yes!) was the tallest building in town. Then came the Space Needle, then the Sea-First building, where I worked for a few years several decades ago. The views from its top floors were spectacular, but not much else there was fun, so sometimes I took refuge at lunchtime in Seattle's Freeway Park, then new. I would sit close to the fountains where the white-noise of the rushing water drowned out the rush of cars on Interstate 5 below. Seattle has grown; fortunately Freeway Park has grown too. Yesterday was a typical grayish February Seattle day, but urban sketch-crawlers found color everywhere! Thanks again to Beth and everyone who came along for the fun!

Thank you Seattle Sketch Crawlers for including me in your group sketching yesterday. I cannot figure out how to upload an image to this post. I tried once to post and it somehow disappeared as a "draft". In lieu of uploading an image I will leave a URL to the image on my facebook site. Hope this post makes it to the board. :)

This is my image from my 26th WW SketchCrawl in Seattle. The image is an Asian Bell installed in Seattle's Freeway Park. It was drizzling on and off and if you look closely at the shadow under the roof you will notice the spots made by raindrops on a fresh wash. This is a large format plein air 15 x 22", arches 140 lb cp in transparent watercolor or watercolour if you prefer.
