Munich, Germany [RESULTS]

Post by textiledreamer » Mon Jan 11, 2010 6:45 pm

Since our indoor sketchcrawl worked out nicely last time, I'll suggest another indoor location for February, but hopefully one with a difference. :D

Anybody want to join me to crawl the Deutsches Museum? I've finally gotten myself a membership for this year, and started to explore the place, but since it's so huge, it might take me the whole year. So there should be something interesting to find for everybody.

Hello Constanze,

Deutsches Museum is fine for me.

I also have a membership. As you certainly know, we can take one visitor each with us for free.

Hi everybody,

my name is Pina and I’d like to join you at the museum. Is there something I need to know, because I’ve not done this before?

See you then!
Pina

--- welcome aboard, Pina! Nothing you need to know. Just meet up and keep on sketching, talking, exchanging, eating, laughing and sharing your pictures on site and here ;)

Enjoy, T.

Hi Pina,

welcome! Nothing special to know, just bring yourself and some drawing supplies! :D We'll post about where and when exactly we meet a few days before, and then it's just showing up and having fun together.

Ok, we're getting closer. Looks like there's going to be six of us, Susi will be there as well, she's just forgotten her password.

Now, as to where and when to meet. It would be good to meet outside the museum, since going in together will make the most of our membership cards. How about the café at the back of the museum shop?

As to timing, both Karin and me have another engagement later that day, so if nobody thinks this is way too early, I'd suggest meeting at 10am.

Alternative suggestions are of course welcome!

See you on Saturday,
Constanze

Hrrmmph, everybody else seems to be even slower than me. There were 5 of us hanging out at the Deutsches Museum yesterday, and I think we all had a great time. Here are my sketches in small, you can access the full-sized versions from my gallery page:
A refractory telescope
Image
A girder for a Zeppelin airship
Image
An armillary sphere holding a planetary
Image
A grammophone
Image
This one's from today, but since the location was the same, I'm including it nevertheless. Does it show I'm spending way too much time inside that museum?

That's it from me, I hope everybody else shows up soon to post their results!

From me, from the technical museum:

a Fokker triplane from 1917 (the museum is showing a replica)
Image

a steam engine from 1847 (this steam engine of the space-saving half-beam type was in operation in a mine until 1907)
Image

details from a wooden commercial fishing boat built 1880 (the whole boat is on display in the museum)
Image

a manual telephone switchboard from 1905 (with the lady telephone operator still in pretty good shape today  )
Image

All drawings: A4 size, the first three done with ink pen and waterbrush, the last one done with pencil.

I will follow Constanze and Wolfgang and post my drawings from the museum. It was my first sketchcrawl and I was a little bit nervous to draw in public at the beginning. But it was fun to meet with the others, wander around the big museum and draw. :)

@Constanze: You were at the museum again today? Wow.

I’m looking forward to next time. :)

I admit it - I was too lazy yesterday to post ...

So here are my sketches - Susi and I had a slow start, we first had find an open coffee place - so we decided that we would do a first sketch at least while having the coffee. We were sitting on the gallery above the airplane area:
Image

Then I was fascinated by old toys - this one being a construction kit for a massive cathedral made of small stone blocks; and some doodling on the left side - Susi had bought a glass nib that I was trying out. Plus a preglued cutout of a proverb on the left.
Image

Then after lunch I decided to go outside - it was lovely weather but after a while my fingers got pretty cold - after all, it was still February ! So the first sketch is of the tower outside that doubles as hygrometer (measuring air humidity) and barometer (for air pressure).
The second one is the lovely fire alarm from Berlin, around 1895 - it is actually really red but my watercolor box fell down, the purple colour piece broke and since then I get purple spots in every colour.... so pinkish instead of red !

Looking forward to the next crawl !
