November 21st 2009 - Our 5th Anniversary SketchCrawl!!!

This is the busy Kensington Street in the North Laine, drawn from Starbucks and coloured with watercolour at home later. Notice the mis-spelling on the digger - I didn't have room for all letters of the word 'contractors'.
Everywhere was packed, including the eclectic and wonderful Marwood cafe, seen here. I intend to colour this later, too. I didn't do justice to the massively tall, skinny, blonde waitress in the sailor's hat, sadly.
This is the image I am most pleased with, I think - certainly it stands up best as a pure line drawing. It was almost the last of the day: perhaps I'd loosened up finally by then. It shows readers in Brighton's public library, seen from the balcony above.
Here is a man with very long dreadlocks, beside his pal who is eating takeaway food from the Christmas market that has already sprung up in Jubilee Square.
My very first sketch of the day shows many of our Sketchcrawlers, surrounded by the poor folk who had merely come to the library to have a read!

I have put some colour in my cafe scene - and it's all gone a bit chaotic. I can see lots of faults with it, but I must say I am still quite fond of it. Good thing it's just meant to be a sketch, or I could go on working on it for weeks... and yeah, I know there's such a thing as overworking.
Thanks for your lovely comments, people. if anyone is interested, I've added comments to all my sketches on http://www.flickr.com/photos/mockduck/tags/sketchcrawl/.
