Fort Worth, TX, USA [Results]

Post by jehucampos » Sat Nov 21, 2009 9:13 pm

Hello all! I got to the gardens at about 10 or so, so I didn't get to meet up with the other sketchcrawlers, but I did get some sketching done myself! I did all of these in the Japanese Garden.

Sorry we missed you, we stayed mostly in the Fuller Garden. Great sketches! I'll upload mine in a while.

Great work, I really like the way you handled the leaves.

Thanks, it was fun. I kept looking for people who might have been sketching too, but didn't see anyone.

Nice sketch, Ramin! Can't wait to see everyone else's.

Sorry to have missed you, Jehucampos!

There were four of us that started out in the Fuller Garden at 9 and sketched until 10:30 or so. After meeting up for a bit, some headed over to the conservatory. I wandered over to the Japanese garden at noon, but by that time, my sketchbook was asleep, and so I took some time to feed the gigantic koi there. There were about a gazillion photographers in the Japanese garden, Jehucampos. Did you manage to avoid them?

It was really inspirational for me to see everyone's work today, especially the differences in style, media, and subject. It has got me thinking about using different sizes of paper and ballpoint pens for starters. Looking forward to the next time we can meet and sketch!

Here's one of an oak leaf hydrangea...

A first sketch after years and years on not sketching. Doing computer graphic design and illustration has supplanted the "old" way to do things. This is a first in my attempt to get my art chops back for my own enjoyment if nothing else. I have too many dusty art materials from way back to not do this!

I really enjoyed meeting fellow sketchers and look forward to doing more as a group.

I saw photos on other SketchCrawl worldwide postings so I thought I'd post this. This was taken at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden while sketching Saturday. I was about six feet away when I photographed this guy. I guess the Heron felt secure in his territory and the type of people that visit the botanic garden. I'm lucky to get within 40-50 feet of one of these normally. What a beautiful, elegant bird!
