So where should we sketch? Let's start the voting process!

I'll probably have to leave early again because I have an art show in Pico Union that night. shameless plug

I bump into a few fellow Crawlers at Nucleus and we brainstorm a few location ideas ...

- Descanso Garden

-Redondo Beach

- Getty Center

- Echo Park

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, John and Alina!
I'm leaning toward the Getty since that location stays cooler during summertime. Redondo Beach (and beaches in general) might be too crowded during summer.
My second choice is Echo Park for combination of buildings/people/lotus flowers to draw - anybody know the area well enough to guide us on where to park, highlights to see, best places to meet? I can go with Descanso Gardens if more people want to do nature sketches more than urban sketches.

My vote so far is Echo Park, but unfortunately I don't know the area very well. =/

Getty Center is pretty stark-- not too much their that is interesting to draw.... Or that is specific to Los Angeles-- My vote is for Echo Park-- *OR* Hollywood Blvd.-- Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Musso's etc...

Yo Guys,

It's been a while since I last went to crawl.... but San Pedro has some really nice old cityscapes (6th street)... stuff unchanged from 60s or 70s.... + LA harbor is near and Palos Verdes parks / Korean Bell etc.

I'm new to LA so I don't know much about these locations sadly. Just wanted to say I'm in and I'll go where ever the group ends up.

I have briefly visited the Getty and found it pretty interesting architecturally and if nothing else there are hills covered with homes and distant views, besides the obvious art studying you could do inside. The only down side I could see is that if you go to the Getty you're stuck there until you drive somewhere else. Whereas if we go somewhere else you could most likely walk around if you get bored.
I came from a beach town and I tend to find them most interesting when they're packed because of all the characters and how much people load up on junk, toting around their carts full of umbrellas, coolers, towels, etc.

I don't really have an opinion on which places would be better over others but I thought I would just throw in those observations to be considered.

Hi Everyone,

How about Echo Park, since a few people mentioned it, and it's been suggested for past Sketchcrawls?
How about if we meet at Angelus Temple, at 10:30am on Saturday July 11? From there, we can walk to the lake or see and sketch buildings and people around the area.

Angelus Temple info:
1100 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90026
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelus_Temple

Echo Park:
http://www.historicechopark.org/

Let me know if this is OK so I can announce it to Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Shoot! I just realized that I have an eye doctor appointment that morning, so I'll see you all at 11am - hope that's OK with everyone.
Feel free to get there at 10:30 and start sketching; I'm the short Asian girl who look like this, if you want to look for me: http://www.urbansketchers.com/2008/12/m ... shiho.html

Fun times, I have to take my car in at 9 up in Van Nuys. Hopefully it won't take too long but who knows when it comes to maintenance. I'll try and get there eventually but in case I don't make it, sorry in advance. I'll try and get to the next one.
How late do you guys normally stay out sketching for this?

Hopefully I'll see you guys tomorrow.
but if not I'll be drawing a waiting room
