San Francisco [RESULTS]
Re: San Francisco [RESULTS]
(YWCA Chinatown, designed by Julia Morgan - 4 blocks up from Portsmouth Park)
I had a late start, crawled solo, and managed to render 1 page in my sketchbook
Sorry I didn't catch up with majority of you. Thanks to the footage by Goro, I noticed
an old colleague, Michael Kelly Griffin. And Joe was breaking it down - popp'in &
lock'in for the camera
Bummer that Enrico was out sick - that's never fun. And thank you Ronnie
for hanging out up to the very end.
Great work all around, you've all filled up your pages quite nicely
-Gerald
Re: San Francisco [RESULTS]
Wow, a lot of great work here by everyone. It's good to be in such company.
Here's Portsmouth square at the start of the day.
On Grant St, I noticed they were getting ready for a lion dance celebration. Here are two of the lion heads before the dancers put them on, some musicians, one of the dancers in his flashy lion pants, banners on the Shanghai Bazaar, and the business end of the long string of firecrackers that went off with a deafening roar.
A diner at a seafood restaurant demonstrates his unbeatable two-handed soup technique, kohlrabi at the vegetable market, the Eastern Bakery sign, and the erhu player serenading the street.
See you all next time,
Gary

Re: San Francisco [RESULTS]
Martha and I couldn't make it to the "real" SF Sketchcrawl so in the afternoon we sketched in Kensington, a little town between Berkeley, where she lives, and El Cerrito, where I live. This is my favorite neighborhood grocery store:
Then we headed half a mile north to the old Sunset View cemetery (great name and great views!). Here's a sketch at the cemetery.
Next time for sure we'll join up with the big group again.

Re: San Francisco [RESULTS]
The San Francisco contributions are dazzling. The video is a great record of the fun of going out drawing - it's really heartwarming to watch. I have sent email links to it to several people to persuade them to come out drawing! It doesn't seem right to single out anyone's drawings in particular but among all the marvellous drawings I was struck by the picture of the YWCA building by Gerald - it is so remarkable, also the two drawings by Alex Puvilland - tremendous.
