stuff from the last days

Post by Guest »

Hi,
first post here.
spring has finally hit town and I spend some time outdoors sketching. Random stuff. figure sketches are stolen at a climbing place. I missed the 2nd sketchcrawl by a day, looking forward to the next one.

Hi Enrico
I did these in the south-west of France, town's name is Bordeaux
I'm currently sticking to the black/white combo because I still blow most of my watercolors experimentations, but thanks anyway ;)

all, Thanks for the encouraging comments.
Janbow : not sure I get it, I'm afraid. but cheers anyway :) I suspect that each medium is bringing back a different layer of "influences" than, say, digital tools or even paints would. This kind of line works is probably related to the bandes dessinees ( comic books ) I was reading as a kid. and all the classic illustrations, if that's you were refering to.
Tools are a crap ball pen ( not even a brand on it ;) I started to use by accident last week when I forgot my usual gear, and the other is a cool Pentel brushpen GFKP - ( permanent china ink ).

watercolor I think I did the weekend of the of the second SC, but I had no idea of the thing - then. I have learned that trying to dry watercolors under heavy snow ain't can be gory. This one survived.

well i'm still very impressed. especially since i hate ballpens.
it's the way you use line for shadow that I was thinking of. Also i have a pentel brush pen (dupuy and berberian's book about lisbon inspired me to get it - have you seen that?) but have always failed miserably with it. but your trees are great.

nice snow too! :)

another one I tweaked yesterday with white gouache on blossoms. Sketchbook's paper is actually kinda yellowish, so i though I might give it a try.
Janbow, I see what you mean now, like on the church one, kinda Gustave Dore and these etching illustrator techniques ? ... I guess It came from the nature of the tool I was stuck with :) I'm starting to love this, adapting and getting surprised by every new medium ( for me ).
I know Dupuy and B, but I'll have to look at that very book.
:)

a quicky of la base sous-marine, huge concrete thing build in the second world war to host piles of U-Boat. submarines. thickest walls and roof ever - exactly the same thing as in Indiana Jones I. The foreground ducks miraculously popped by at the end of the drawing - to add a litlte cheesy touch.

some of this morning's effort. pencils.
the grave is in the foreground garden of the church... such a classic motif with the tree in full bloom behind, from that angle.

very nice line work. You have a very poetic sense to your location sketching.

Wonderful work! (and i know how you feel about not being able to draw outside because of the weather, i live in michigan. :))

Dan, cheers. Weather's will be pretty nice from now on here.

Yesterday's. I feel it lacks contrast, the tiny street really makes a "Petra-like" effect. Sketchbook's paper too thin to wash on top, unfortunatly. pencil, no ice.
