I forgot to mention --
I did not see a restaurant or even a place to buy coffee.
If you're going to stick around the Fort, you should bring your own.

Later note added: Gerald said there is a place in walking distance that has food and drinks.
I saw the building but didn't realise what it is. It's called the "Warming Hut"
I don't know what they have to offer. You'll have to see for yourself.
It is easily in walking distance between the Fort and Crissy Field.
See Seeker's map below.

However they do have good bathroom facilities in the parking lot.
Not porta-potties --they have an actual building with sinks and all.

One good thing is that the Fort's courtyard is outside, but protected from wind.
I point this out because it's been pretty foggy and windy lately in that area.

When I drove over a few days ago, the Marin side was in full sunshine
and the bridge and Fort disappeared in the thick fog.

That meant it was kind of chilly too so bring an extra layer.

There's a little lighthouse on top too.

This is a very thick walled brick building
straddled by the Golden Gate Bridge.

Inside are intersecting arches and some beautiful brickwork.

I have never been inside, typically just park and enjoy the view, so looks like it will be educational too.

Found this other link.

Usually end time / meeting location is decided at the initial meeting. If there is cellphone coverage, im sure someone or myself can post an update, for the benefit of those that may arrive later.

Someone asked,
Did you get a chance to walk down to the "Warming Hut" Cafe? Great place with loads of dogs, bikers and people fishing at the little pier. Do you recommend bundling up at Fort Point? Did it get chilly during your visit?
I saw the fishing pier and forgot to mention it, but yes, it had fishermen and probably crabbers too. I remember there were bathrooms there, but I don't know about the "Warming Hut".

It was chilly the day I was at the Fort. That's because of the fog and wind. I bet there's a video cam somewhere on the net taking live shots of the weather at the Golden Gate Bridge. If it looks foggy there, then it's probably a bit chilly at the Fort.
Thanks Gerald

Fort Point is right underneath this webcam.
So, the weather you see here is what the weather is at Fort Point.
I think it's updated every few minutes.
If you see fog here, then it'll be a little chilly down below.

hey all -
this weekend is the 32nd annual San Francisco Free Folk Music Festival, just down the way at Fort Mason.

If you have any lead left in your pencil, it also looks like a great place to do some sketching
http://sffolkfest.org/2008/index.html
It goes from noon til 10pm

(also, the friends of the public library bookstore is down that way, they have a great art section)

fyi,

There is a heat advisory so it may actually be rather warm, instead of the windy/chilly weather we expected.

Fort Point is right underneath this webcam, so, the weather you see here is the weather is at Fort Point.
It's updated every few minutes. Look at that sky! Beautiful.
If you see sunny weather here, then you'll see kite-boarders and windsurfers out in the Bay.
Probably lots of sailboats too.

Terrific airport sketches, and wonderful portrait sketches on those napkins.
