Seattle - Washington - USA

Post by lbeefus »

Edit: Looks like we'll be meeting in Fremont, Saturday June 21st, 2008. I'll post more details when we decide about where we'll meet!

Old Message:
For now, this is just a placeholder so that newcomers know that we'll do a Seattle SketchCrawl, and that we'd love to have them come! Once we decide on a location and time, I'll update this message.

Interesting suggestions I've heard... please add more to the thread!

Well if it is on 6/21, then there is only one place to go, and that is Fremont. It's the day of the Solstice Parade!

the Solstice Parade sounds like a lot fun, drawing all the naked people parading on the street! and perhaps we can sketch some of the statues around there as well (Lenin, Waiting for the Interurban... ) I know you were sketching there recently Tony but what do you think? also, today it occurred to me that Gasworks park may also be a good sketching spot. geez, there are so many great places to sketch in Seattle!!!!

I did one sketch there, but there are a lot more to do, so I'm totally in favor of Fremont! Especially with all the parade stuff that usually goes on there. We may be drawing standing up, though :)

If you get there an hour or two before the parade starts you can get a decent spot, and even have room for a folding chair. At least that's been possible in the past. I usually set up shop right in front of Ibeefus's "Lenin del Mar."

should we decide time and place to meet in Fremont? how about 10 a.m. at the Lenin statue so we can warm up before the parade starts at noon?

10 am at Mr. Lenin's Proletariat Paradise Burrito and Gelato Food Court sounds good to me. I'll watch for you but I am going to try and grab some curb near there so if you don't see me look around I'll probably be nearby, trying to preserve my spot. I hope somebody does a Sun Dance or something because summer solstice notwithstanding, the way things have been around here lately I'll be thankful if it isn't snowing!

The Lenin statue can be seen here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&g ... kipedia_en

(Use the "Satellite" view and under More, select "Photos" -- there's a photo of the statue.)

It will be crazy crowded there. It's a good thing we're arriving two hours before the parade starts.

Nice sketches of the food court and the people watching the parade. How disappointing to go out to join the group and not find anyone. It looks like you had a good time anyway though.
