We had a great day sketching in Berkeley! It started out foggy but the sun soon came out. We worked in and around the "4th Street" commercial area in Berkeley. There were lots of good subjects to sketch, and it was inspiring to share sketchbooks (over Irish Coffees
) at the end of the day.
Present were: Jana, Martha, Adam, Natalie, Cathy, Doña, Carrie, Pete, Vern, Genevieve and Lucille. Here are some photos of the day:
I'll post my sketches as soon as I get them scanned in.

Thanks Martha for organizing this fun day and taking the great photos! It was so much fun to spend the day drawing and enjoying the company of artist friends.
Peets Coffee 4th Street
Blind Lilly, chanting "Good afternoon, could you help me please?" asking for money on 4th Street. I did help her with a few bucks and she was pleased to have her portrait drawn.
Behind Sur la Table on 4th Street.
Spenger's Fish Grotto (Not a great drawing...the first of the day).

I commute to Emeryville but have not had a chance to explore much beyond the home/work route, thank you for sharing. I must go there.

I felt so lucky to meet Martha, Jana and several of the crawlers at the start of the day but had to leave early. So I missed the great reveals at the end of the day - bummer! I spent most of my time parked in front of this cool looking historical church on Hearst and Ninth streets.

I also drew this cute statue sitting on 4th and Hearst streets.

P.S.: I know there must be a way to post both images in the same area but my techie skills are rather lame.

These are great, you guys! I got impatient reading and went scrolling down for the pictures, and then had to go back and doublecheck that I was right - 4th Street is a character in itself.
Sounds like you all had a good time... beautiful work!

great stuff martha, looks really nice with the colour, especially the one of spenger's. And i love the trick you showed me, on the down home music sketch, with the car outlines, i will be trying that in future! The house on fifth street is really nice too.
and very nice pictures also, natalie, i like the snake! i wish i'd gone to that shop now. i used to have a pet snake, years ago, hissing sid. and then another one a few years later called imran khan. prefer snakes to spiders. spiders are my enemy, and there is one outside my apartment right this minute which is scaring the bejesus out of me.
