I plan to crawl in Berkeley this time around. Care to join me?

Last time, we had a blast! We crawled on the UCB campus, so maybe this time we should try a new location?

One idea is the Fourth Street area (restaurants, shops, buildings, people). Any others?

Where to Crawl?

OK gang, we need to firm up our plans for Saturday! Any other locations to consider besides Fourth Street? Should we start at 11:00 and have our final meetup at 3:00?

I'm OK with the suggested schedule and with 4th Street. 4th Street always has lots of people and usually dogs and cats for adoption, interesting store window displays and some funky industrial areas nearby, Bette's Diner is very retro, and the old nautically-themed Spengers Restaurant is interesting. There's also the pedestrian bridge at the foot of University that goes over the freeway down to the Marina.

Another possibility (though in Oakland, not Berkeley) is the Mountain View Cemetery (great views and statues) and neighboring Chapel of the Chimes (an architectural gem) which has amazing indoor gardens and both are just off Piedmont Avenue where there are lots of cafes. There are some pictures here of Chapel of the Chimes: http://www.chapelofthechimes.com/oakland/index.html

i like the idea of 4th St, i've never been down there, and it's right on the amtrak line as well.

Hi,

I'd like to join you guys this weekend. Martha, it would be great to see you again. Where on 4th St?

I may need to leave a bit early, as I have dinner plans back in Santa Cruz, but I'll hang out as long as I can.

Where to meet

Okay everybody, here's the plan:

- The venue will be the 4th Street district in Berkeley

- We will meet at 11:00 am on the Southwest corner of 4th St and Hearst Ave., which is here. Note that University Ave. goes _over_ 4th Street, so you'll need to turn on 6th Street if you are coming from the freeway. This area is not near BART, but it is right on the Amtrak line. There are buses along University Avenue as well.

- We will sketch from 11:00 to 3:00, either together or separately as folks desire

- We will meet again at 3:00 to share sketchbooks. At the starting point we will pick the location of the 3:00 meet-up, taking into consideration how many people we have.

I will bring a map with sites of interest and potential sketching zones highlighted, and will also post a link to that map in this forum.

Parking can be tight on the weekends: I recommend parking a few blocks away to the North or South and walking in.

For late arrivals, my cell # is 510-421-9529

A sweater never hurts, as we are in the fog belt here in Berkeley.

Today we had fog in the morning which is just burning off at now, at noon. The forecast for tomorrow is the same, with a high of 81 degrees. So, dressing in layers is a good idea.
