Sounds like Little Tokyo will be a great location for a Sketch Crawl!

In addition to the events storydesign mention, a giant Nebuta float will be on display at Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (244 South San Pedro Street, between 2nd and 3rd Streets).

We can meet at 10:30am at the wooden tower in Japanese Village Plaza, facing 1st Street between Central and San Pedro (101 Japanese Village Plaza Mall, Los Angeles, CA 90012). Parking around the area is $3-$5.

Alina!

I followed your advice and opened a thread for Vancouver... but no one is interested.. boo-hoo... if i'd only be back in LA. I'm jealous of all of you, LA sketchcrawling was the best!

Have great fun and till hopefully soon,
Danny.

You could try creating a quick SketchCrawl flyer and passing it around the arts stores, maybe someone else will show up. That is what I am going to do since I wont be able to attend the San Francisco one due to last minute issues that came up :(

That's a GREAT idea seeker.
Danny, another good place to post up SketchCrawl notice is the Drawing board forum!!

Don't give up. Sometimes people don't respond on the forum, they will show up. :) And tell your friends and ask them to ask their friends and spread the news. Word of mouth often work well. :)

Sketchcrawling in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles

Post by storydesign »

I ended up in Little Tokyo for the Taiko drumming at the cultural center-end of the day.
I did a late lunch at Daikokuya Ramen on first st. I did a quick digital sketch of the clientele.

The manager, Motoi, became interested in my tablet sketching--Image
he is an artist too. I let him give it a whirl--his drawing below.

I did get to sketch the Nebuto float from Japan! Very cool!

storydesign! Great sketches! And interesting stuff there with the tablet.

There was a small group of us (five). We were at the Village Plaza tower until a little after 11am and were in Little Tokyo sketchcrawling until about 4pm. We were probably there at the same time at some point. Too bad we didn't meet up!

I'll be posting some stuff tomorrow, including a sketch of the Nebuto float. What an incredible looking thing.

The festival was really jumping and there was so much to sketch at any given moment it was a little overwhelming, but fun!

This was my first time joining a group for the sketchcrawl. It was fun meeting new people and being with others, sharing stories and exchanging art material infos and tips.

I've only been to Mitsuwa and Kinokuniya so this was a great opportunity for me to explore the rest of it and what Little Tokyo is all about.

On First street, there are historical buildings where restaurants now occupy.
