Los Angeles SketchCrawl

Post by Ice-Cream Monster »

AWESOME!!

I know it's a bit too early right now to discuss about location ... Since we last minute change the MiniCrawl location plan, just want to bring back JoJo's suggestion of picnic and hiking Griffin Park before we forget about it in a month or so ...... :)

Griffin Park suggestion, includes visit to Travel Town, picnic at the Park and hike up to the Observatory ... Since March is so far ahead ... may be we will have enough time to book a visit and sky show inside the Observatory!!

Please feel free to charm in any suggestion.

Griffith Park

Post by storydesign »

there is also the Westen Museum and ZOO!! in Griffith Park.

ALSO the OLD Griffith Park ZOO (closed many years) is open above the carousel! It used to have the old cages covered in ivy and vines like planet of the Apes.. now a picnic area open to the public

i was able to check out the griffith park area this weekend.

the observatory is AMAZING! i took the shuttle up and reached the top of the hill EXACTLY at sunset, it was as beautiful as a hazy, smoggy hollywood sunset could be. they stay open till 10pm, and they let you look through the big telescope (saturn's out right now!).

the zoo, western museum, carosel, equestrian center, trains, the observatory are all at the park. i'm not sure we could hit up all of them, but there's plently of things to do and draw!

Los Angeles SketchCrawl - March 17th

Post by shihonakaza »

I'm looking forward to sketchcrawling with y'all again on March 17! What time do you want to get together at Griffith Park? It's important to know that we need timed reservations for a shuttle ($8) to go to the Observatory itself:

Griffith Park suggestion

Post by Ice-Cream Monster »

I was at Griffith Park Observatory last week. The Observatory is best visited later in the day, right before sunset ... then you got to see the sun and the stars .... If people don't mind a bit of a hike up we can park the cars at Greek Theater lot, and walk up there ... it's about a 5 mins walk. So our schedule wouldn't get restricted by the shuttle schedule. We can go up there whenever we feel like it.

Travel Town is a good place to sketch too. If people are interested, we can meet up around 10:30am at Travel Town. I heard it a cool train musuem, with train people can ride on?!

This is a cool site about Griffith Park:

Please feel free to charm in more suggestion ....

travel town admission is free with a little train (that costs money to ride) plus they let you crawl around on some of the big old train engines!!

POST BY Quixx

Hi everyone! I just moved to LA from Tucson this January, and would like to participate in the next Crawl. I heard about it in Tucson, but I couldn't make it to the last two.

Hopefully I'll see you all at this month's location!

Crystal WELCOME to the LA Crawl!!

Since everyone seems to be excited with Griffith Park, should we make this the location?!

Shall we say, meet up at 10:30am at the entrance to Travel Town?
Travel Town web-site:
http://www.laparks.org/grifmet/tt/infor ... m#location

Address:
Travel Town Transportation Museum
5200 Zoo Dr. Los Angeles, CA 90027
Operations: (323) 662-5874

JoJo since you are more familar with the area, would you say we should pack luncheon with us and picnic? I can't remember any food places in the park ... may be I was wrong ...

I've never yet been to a Sketchcrawl, so I'm hoping that barring any disasters I can show up for this one. :D

It'd be great fun to not only draw all morning but to meet you guys. btw, don't forget that right across the freeway from Travel Town is the Equestrian Center--more good sketch subjects of all kinds there.
