This is definitely in the spirit of the sketchcrawl, even if it is slightly more sedentary. For most of this past year, a Toronto artist named Bobby Chiu has been running a subway sketchgroup. Each Sunday afternoon, Bobby's group hops on the train at Union Station and spends 2-3 hours riding back and forth across the city, sketching whomever happens to step onboard.
I joined Bobby's group when I was living in Toronto earlier this year, and now that I am back in the States, I am an official "franchisee", with my own sketch group. I'm not alone, there are "Subway Sketch Groups" all around the world. Check out the master thread at CGTalk.com:

Another Subway Sketcher
Nice work Tom! How many sketches do you manage to get in on a single ride? I sketch here on the NYC subways as well, but I usually only manage to get a single sketch in on any given ride (about 20 minutes). I also use a very small (3x5) sketchbook, so a single drawing per page is the norm.
